Resand Ltd, a Finnish technology company specializing in environmentally friendly foundry sand regeneration and recycling, and Swedish foundry Combi Wear Parts AB have signed an agreement on an electric sand reclaimer on January 2025. This is the first electrical sand reclaiming solution on the Swedish market.

This collaboration is expected to bring numerous benefits, including eliminating waste sand in landfills, reusing waste sand in the production process, and reducing costs and CO2 emissions.

Resand's electric sand reclaimer provides a game-changing solution for the foundry industry. The e-reclaimer unit is a modular system that is quick and customer-friendly regarding installation and commissioning.

“We believe in taking responsibility for the entire lifecycle of our products by using recycled steel scrap and supporting the recycling of our wear parts. Our goal is to minimize environmental impact and optimize resource utilization. With Resand’s electric reclaimer, we can significantly reduce our reliance on virgin sand, conserve natural resources, and decrease waste generation. Furthermore, embracing sand regeneration aligns with our broader sustainability goals, demonstrating a proactive approach to environmental stewardship and corporate responsibility,” says Emma Sundqvist, COO, of Combi Wear Parts AB.

Combi Wear Parts is a Swedish company, developing and producing patented world-class wear parts for global customers in the construction, mining, and dredging industries. Combi operates a foundry in Ljungby, Sweden, where they also manufacture complex and unique key components for market leaders within the forestry and goods-handling industries. The products are exclusively made from recycled steel scrap that comes from steel manufacturing companies in Sweden. The sustainability of the foundry operations is also based on the safety of the employees and the use of renewable energy.

“We are very happy to enter the Swedish foundry market and start cooperation with Combi Wear Parts, known for its ambition to seek sustainable and innovative solutions while reducing its ecological footprint. With our electrically powered reclaimer, CO2 emissions from the use of new sand and associated transportation can be reduced significantly. As Combi uses only renewable energy at its foundry, the reclaimer's direct greenhouse gas emissions, i.e. Scope 1 emissions, remain low. After regeneration, the sand can be used again in foundry processes, effectively reducing the need for virgin sand,” says Kalle Härkki, CEO of Resand Ltd.
