Resand Ltd, a Finnish technology company specializing in environmentally friendly foundry sand regeneration and recycling, and Grunewald GmbH & Co. KG, a pioneer in low-pressure sand casting of aluminum, have signed an agreement on a sand regeneration service in May 2025. The agreement will take effect in January 2026 and remain valid for five years.

Through this collaboration, Grunewald will leverage Resand's advanced sand regeneration solution, which includes a patented double drum technology and an innovative Sand As A Service (SAAS) business model. Sand regeneration will take place at Grunewald’s foundry. After regeneration, the sand can be used again in foundry processes, effectively reducing the need for virgin sand.

Grunewald is a leading specialist in the field of low-pressure sand casting, utilizing innovative technologies to maintain the highest quality standards. The company is characterized by its ability to produce complex geometries with thin-walled structures precisely and reliably.

Mold production is carried out using both traditional model setup and modern 3D sand printing, which enables flexible and efficient production processes. Both types of sand – the classic shape and the 3D-printed sand – can be processed with the sand regeneration technology of Resand. This not only saves costs for the procurement of new sand, but also contributes to sustainable and resource-saving production.

With this combination of innovative technology and sustainable approach, Grunewald is positioning itself as a future-oriented partner for demanding casting jobs in industry.

"Resand's sand regeneration solution perfectly aligns with our commitment to sustainable and efficient manufacturing processes. It enables us to significantly increase our production capacity while reducing our energy consumption and maintenance costs associated with sand regeneration. The increased capacity and cost savings from Resand’s Sand As A Service (SAAS) will enable us to maintain our high precision standards in aluminum casting," says Ulrich Grunewald, Managing Director of Grunewald.

”Our collaboration with Grunewald validates the effectiveness of our double drum technology and SAAS model. It is a testament to our ability to deliver significant economic and environmental benefits to our clients. A win-win-win for the customer, the environment, and Resand,” says Mikko Immonen, CEO of Resand Ltd.

Resand Ltd in brief

Sand suitable for industrial use is becoming scarce. However, the extraction of virgin sand can be reduced, and the resulting loss of biodiversity is slowed down by regenerating and reusing sand. Resand Ltd is a Finnish technology company specializing in foundry sand regeneration, offering its customers clean sand as a service. The Resand® solution enables almost 100% recycling of foundry sand and reduces transportation costs and CO2 emissions.

Resand Ltd is headquartered in Nuutajärvi, Finland, and has staff in several European countries. The company aims to achieve strong growth in the European foundry market and to expand its business outside Europe.

The Resand® brings a solution to the global challenge by recycling sand - again and again and again. www.resand.eu
